Comic #50 – The Open Door Equation

I can’t believe it!

50 comics already!

Let me know what you think of the comic in general, any and all comments/feedback is appreciated.

I think when I reach 100 strips I’m going to try submitting to a syndicate…

Update: Harpocrates23 explained the math a lot clearer…
He is 11 feet away travelling at 1.75 ft/s so based on D = v * t => t = D/v so t = 11/1.75 which means that t = 6.29 seconds away or 0.79 seconds over the cutoff point.

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!

omg i am usually caught up in this awkward timing…. =)

i think you should allow the story to be told visually ratehr than through the text, or at least find a middle ground.

Maybe you can find a book that teaches the methods of a comic writer. =)

But overall i love your commic. it rocks!!! =)

  2. Harpocrates23

    Hey Stupid Inventor.

I get your comic by rss feed to my work outlook and I find it enjoyable. With only 50 strips (think about comic strips in newspaprs that have 365 a year..!!!) you are doing quite well. Cant wait till you get published :)

  3. stupidinventor

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

@moni_Bologna good point, I do tend to rely more on writing because im not much of an artist. But for this strip I like it the third panel the way it is, after the accident.

@Harpocrates23 Thanks! I hope to reach about 100 in the Summer and send in my best 24 to the syndicates… :) I also might have another comic project coming up, not sure if it’s happening so I don’t want to jinx it.

  4. The0Burger0King

lol This one is my favorite now!
I like your comic a lot. Its dorky (thats a compliment), funny, and it brightens my day :) .

  5. Harpocrates23

Actually a better way to show the Math would have been to say:

He is 11 feet away travelling at 1.75 ft/s so based on D = v * t => t = D/v so t = 11/1.75 which means that t = 6.29 seconds away or 0.79 seconds over the cutoff point. You should solve your equation with the variable you are looking for :p

  6. Harpocrates23

BTW…why don’t you have a gravatar setup :P We need your little Duck to distinguish your posts.

  7. stupidinventor

@The0Burger0King Thanks! Glad you like the comic! yeah this is one of my favorite strips!

@Harpocrates23 Good point, I updated the explanation!
I set up a gravatar! The Duck of course! :)

  8. moni_Bologna

    Finally the DUCK! =)

  9. moni_Bologna

btw i think the last pane rocks. it really makes me giggle. =)

  10. Harpocrates23

Nice…I was hoping for the Duck.

Also thanx for using my explanation :) .

BTW, I am an Electrical Engineer so keep working hard to get there…only took me 11 years (two 4 year degrees and over 30 part time jobs later… :p )

  11. stupidinventor

@moni_Bologna ha, i didnt realize everyone loves the duck so much! :) Yeah it makes me laugh too…

    @Harpocrates23 Another Duck fan!
No problem, it was a good one!
Oh cool, you have two degrees in engineering?
I finish my BS in Electrical Engineering in December! :)

  12. harpocrates23

Yes…one is in Agricultural Engineering and irrigation systems (basically Mechanical Engineering on farm Machinery…don’t ask..but it was done in Greece and you don’t get that much of a choice in what you will study so it was either that or get a job…at the time) and one in Computing and Communication Systems which is bascially the Communications portion of Electrical Engineering (it was a branch of the EEE degrees to choose from).

Now I work in a totally unrelated field testing and Approving safety equipment like flame, fire, smoke, heat gas detectors and mainly work on toxic and combustible gas detectors. I don’t even do the engineering portion as I am in the perfomance testing department. Weird how life works out. But its fun and I get to travel a lot.

Goog luck with your degree (although us Engineers know it has nothing to do with luck..:) ). Any idea of what work you plan to do…or hope to do :P

  13. moniBologna

    @harpocrates23

Do you currently work in Greece or have you moved elsewhere.

  14. harpocrates23

    @moniBologna

Well if you click on my name you will see my website… BostonGreekGeek…so im in Boston MA… :p Thats why i have my hobby business setup there.
    Where are you located?

  15. harpocrates23

@Stupidinventor …and where are you located?

  16. stupidinventor

@harpocrates23 Cool, yeah, i hear a lot of stories like that from engineers.
I’m in my senior year of an BS in Electrical Engineering, and I would love to work in toy design!

I’m born and raised in Staten Island, NY, and I’m actually working on getting a weekly comic published in the local paper about the Staten Island Ferry!

I would love to have a syndicated comic strip, and then I think I would become a science teacher…

  17. moniBologna

I always loved science and my science teachers. =) yay Fyz-zicks Club! (yes its supposed to be spelled wrong)

    @harpocrates23
I am located in Phoenix, AZ… My link doesnt work yet because i am deciding on what artwork to put up there.

    • stupidinventor

yeah, either a science or physics teacher would be great, because you can give great demos and really get the kids into it!

hmm, I might get a masters in education…

      • moniBologna

i need to get used to this reply thing. lol my reply is “Thats awesome! =)”

        • stupidinventor

Well see, for now im just focusing on getting my bachelors, lol

          • moniBologna

lol yeah only focus on one thing. =) or you will go crazy.. like me. lol jk :)

            • stupidinventor

              lol, crazy is good :)

              • moniBologna

hee hee :D i think so too. .. its exciting!
                :P

    • harpocrates23

All I know about AZ is that it gets hot there….but then again Greece gets quite hot too :)

      What do you do moniBologna?

      • moniBologna

        BTW, I LOVE GREECE. =)

well, AZ is WAY more than just a hot state, we are hot people too, pun intended. =)

well, i am a full-time student (18 credits) and i am a full time employee at a place called The Foundation for Senior Living. i am the Real Estate/ Developmental Services Office/Finance Assistant. I am majoring in Film Practices and applying to major in Film Production soon. =) Wish me Luck!

        • harpocrates23

Good luck to you in your Film career and to Stupidinventor in getting published. The only luck I need is to get a client in Japan or China so I can go out to their facilities to test (I have to go out to clients and test usually). Maybe I’ll get a client in AZ someday…any gas detector companies out there?

          • Moni Bologna

            Gas detector companies? =)
            What’s that?!? =)

            I have a gas station on the corner….. =D!

            • harpocrates23

As in Combustible and Toxic gas detectors. A quick google search gave me this: http://www.azic.com If that company were to call my company and request to have their H2S detector certified for performance I could quote them and come out there for 1 or 2 weeks and test it :)

              • moniBologna

                OH!! i see.

                That’s cool.

              • moniBologna

why did you go to greece for school?

                • harpocrates23

My parents are Greek so when my Father left my mother moved us back to Greece. When I finished high school I had to get some degree and couldnt afford to leave the country so I studied what I got into after giving national exams (Engineering..just not Electrical cause in Greece you cant exactly choose what you study…it depends on a lot of factors money being the main one). When I finished that an oppurtunity came up to study electrical engineering with a scholorship either here in the US or the UK. My sister was in the US alreayd studying and I chose the UK cause I had a 4 year relationship in Greece and we agreed the only way to maintain it was for me to be close. She broke up with me the day I left so when I finished in England I moved to the US for work….phewww…long winded story :P

                  • moniBologna

omg that sounds like an awesome story! =)

                    i love the UK. =)

you lived in a lot of the places i fell in love with lol

                  • moniBologna

Would you ever move back to any of those places?

                    • harpocrates23

I had enough of the UK while I was there and would never want to live there again. Good from a distance. Greece is great to visit but not for work. Here is Great for work and ok to live (California laws and weather agree more with me). If I move back to Greece, it’s after I retire :P

          • stupidinventor

            Thanks!
Good luck to you as well!
I’m assuming there’s a lot of fart humor in you line of work?
            Whoopee Cushions, etc.
            :)

  18. moniBologna

    thats awesome! =)

  19. moniBologna

thats cool. I dunno if i am gonna move to Cali or New York.. it depends on whether i get a job with a production studio.

    • stupidinventor

      I’m not much of a traveler… :(

      • moniBologna

        why not???

        • stupidinventor

too much work involved… im happy doodling at home

          • moniBologna

:D you can doodle what you think the other places look like

            • stupidinventor

lol, or just look on google

              • moniBologna

very true but i think an idea of what it may look like would be funnier

                • stupidinventor

lol, I just tried to draw the statue of liberty for the side project im working on…. didnt come out so well….

                  • moniBologna

…. that would be hilarious to see. :D I love it when people draw a famous landmark and it’ very cartoonish

                    • stupidinventor

You should hopefully be able to see it, should be online in April! :)

soultion: go through the handicap door were it stays open for 10 seconds

    • stupidinventor

lol, actually in my school every building has one handicapped door that opens when you press a button.

Everyone just presses the button and uses that door.

Someone just drew an amazing comic dealing with this issue, I’ll be sure to post a link to it when the humor magazine posts it online…
