Our lives might not be in a “reality” show, but we are definetly being watched one way or another. A simple example is your credit card. All companies use “intelligent” software to monitor your usage and detect any “unsual” purchases to “protect” you if your card is stolen or used in fraudulent purchases. The software essentially creates a psychological profile of you from your purchases and habbits and can differentiate when someone other is using your card. This is not Sci-Fi but actual facts (ever had your card company call you about purchases that might not be yours?…I have). Only one example of many of how we are being watched and carefully examined. It may not be on a show..but the “director” of our lives is out there.
On another note I agree with moniBologna, it would be a nice touch for them to look down (or up) in the panel for some sort of comments. Pearls before Swine has it’s characters interact with the panel a lot .
i see and agree with your stance on a reality show. LOL i seemed to have forgotten the Big Brother (thank you Aldous Huxley).
I think that not only are we watched by the gov but our society has made many of us so self-conscious that we live and act as if we are on tv. LOL we are our own Big Brother.
Though it may sound depressing but i think “we” need “someone” setting the standards and telling us what to do or what not to do. A person’s blueberry or blackberry (i dunno the name.. i dont have one lol) informs them of meetings and literally tells them what to do, which is okay because it allows them to focus and remember other things rather than worrying about an appointment.
The best time of your life is when you were a child and you cared about nothing, your parents set your appointments for ya and you did as they said. (sometimes)
Makes me wanna go play with my OLD ninja turtle helicopter and wear my Sailor moon shoes. (they lit up in pink) =)
Sad but true that people need guidelines as they are incapable of doing the right thing alone. That is one of religions main purposes…to guide people since without it most would be like headless chickens (not promoting religion…just saying ).
However, Blackberries, cellphones and calculators have made people rely on technology so much they are becoming dumber and dumber everyday….this from personal experience. Before Cell phones I could remember any phone number by heart. I knew over 100 numbers and when someone gave me their number, I didnt need a pen or anything. Now Im lucky if I remember my own number and dont tell someone..lemme call you so you can save it. When I went to university in Greece, we were never allowed calculators or formula tables..you had to remember everything and do all calculations by hand. In the U.K and in the states, we are allowed calculators and little books with all important forumlae so we cant even do a simple substraction without giving it some thought. People pull out calculators (on their blackberries) to split a check between 2 people at a restauraunt.
So moniBologna, although it seems like technology has enabled us to focus on other things and have more time, instead we have less time and focus on nothing become dumber by the minute.
Computers will take over…idiocracy will prevail :p
omg i totally agree with you. I wasnt PROMOTING the idea that technology is in a sense a “positive thing” i was just throwing out the idea that technology has (in an extreme example) made us zombies. We are lifeless without it.
i sarcastically said “i love how smart phones are making people even more dumb.”
I forgot to add the last part of my argument that though we are allowed to focus on other things, the smart technology is also makin a lot of people dumb and rather addicted to technology. Its rather sick. it’s making our “memory” capacity get smaller and smaller because naturally when you have no use for soemthing (like memory) it goes away.
I am no different from anyone else because i would LOVE to have something remind me when i have an appointment or when my next board meeting is or when an assignment is due but the smart technology is a little out of my budget and honestly i doubt i would even use it. I am fine with my planner and my post-its. (for now lol)
i don’t know if i got my point across in a clear manner but i entirely side with you on your argument.
Very true guys, but technology is still awesome… I mean I wouldn’t be able to have make this comic if not for scanners, photoshop, wordpress and the internet etc.
I think people need to take this free time that technology allows us and try to do something constructive with it.
I make comics and stupid inventions, may not be the best use of my free time, but definitely fun!
yeah but “stupid inventions” is not a waste of time because you are at least using your mind in figuring out the method of the invention.
Technology is awesome but i dont think anyone’s life should be “ruled” by technology. There are so many people who literally freak out at the thought of not having their phone for 30 mins.
of course people adjust but i think its sad how one thing rules their life…. it can be compared to drugs… If someone stops doing cocaine, they eventially adapt to living without it but they were still addicted at one point in time.
an int he words of Mr. Mackey “Drugs are bad mmmkay”
I mean couldn’t you then say the some people are addicted to their cars?
Don’t get me wrong I think there are people who are addicted to their “crackberries” but I think the majority of people aren’t addicted, but just use it heavily because it is a technological convenience.
I’ve always said sure, someone could be watching everything I do, but surely they have a better way to spend their time? You’d have to be a really bored pervert. :-p
Is there a way to view all of your posts? sometimes I post at a random comic but dont remember which one and I cant see if i had a reply to it. It would be nice if you could view all your posts, or get notified when someone posts a reply to one of your posts
@everyone
True story:
I went out a few weeks ago with some friends last Saturday, we went to times square and played in Dave and Busters and then we all watched a movie.
Meanwhile at home, my mother got a call from the credit card company asking if my card had been stolen.
That’s right, even the credit card company is shocked that I actually went out on a Saturday night!
lol it was Sherlock Holmes, I was disappointed by the movie because I used to love the books and I don’t like the way the movie portrays, well, everyone…
@harpocrates23 I get an email whenever someone comments, so It’s easy for me to respond.
I’ll look into that to see if there are any wordpress plugins for that.
I figured you do…thats why I was wondering if its possible for all users to have the same..otherwise i lose track (I am backposting on a lot I havent read sooooo )
I added the feature that you can reply to specific comments… seems to be working.
I also added a plugin that lets you subscribe to comments, let me know if it works!
Awesome…i like that I am part of this as your website and comic grow and that my suggestions are somewhat useful. Maybe when you get published you can have your loyal followers in the thank you section
(P.S. i checked notify by email so I cam see if this works. I suggest posting a reply to this comment and then a reply to the post so we can see if both replies are considered followups. I have never used wordpress so I dont know what features are available )
the first day i stumbled across this comic strip i literally went straight to the first one and read ALL of em and i was cracking up laughing.. my coworkers were lookin at me funny.
I stumbled upon this comic a month ago and I have not finished reading them all. I also read them at work and I can only read a few at a time as I also read some others (a lot actually) and i have clients who are waiting for their projects to finish sooooo thats why I lose track of where I commented (you would think as an engineer I would have some organized structure of reading them all )
I just noticed there is a reply withing the reply which would have allowed my reply to be placed here instead of under… :p Hope I didnt confuse anyone.
Some people do use ir heavily because of their schedule’s But others are truely addicted.
Others whoa re addicted use it because it makes them happy and like a drug or any other addiction, using the phone releases endorphins which is pleasant of course. The person then begins to associate their happiness with their phone and ONLY their phone. Everytime they want to feel happy they go to their phone, and since everyone wants to be happy ALL THE TIME (i’d love that) they would be on their phone all the time. Plus, many smart phones give you access to all the answers in the world (of course, nto all the correct ones). And without their control, they have an addiction,
“addiction” is a very weird thing… the term makes you think of drinking and smoking. But most of the time its more mentally habitual than chemically.
stupidinventor was going to edit how it stores the name in the name box to help you with your “accident”. it saves me time when its saved so I asked him not to change it.
I guess it should be relieving and depressing at the same time.
depreiving?
heehee … i think its relieving =)
heehee it’d be funny if the stupid inventor and his buddy looked down as if to see the comments. lol
On the topic of whether its depressing or relieving.. i think i am relieved i am not a truman show or on some reality show.

On the previous studpid inventor comic entitled “the smart phone”
http://www.stupidinventor.com/2010/02/04/comic-44-the-smart-phone/
i sarcastically said “i love how smart phones are making people even more dumb.”

Yeah but does that really count as an addiction?
I mean couldn’t you then say the some people are addicted to their cars?
Don’t get me wrong I think there are people who are addicted to their “crackberries” but I think the majority of people aren’t addicted, but just use it heavily because it is a technological convenience.
@ harpocrates23 and moniBologna
Big brother is watching you. (and that creepy neighbor with the telescope) lol
@The0Burger0King
hahahahahaha .. ew =)

Well this whole thing is a learning experience for me as well.
And comicpress/wordpress are so easy to use and customize, highly recommend it!
Ha, I would love to get Stupid Inventor into the papers, but I doubt that’s going to happen… for now its just fun to make!
@harpocrates23 im in class now, when I get home I’m going to look into it.
the first day i stumbled across this comic strip i literally went straight to the first one and read ALL of em and i was cracking up laughing.. my coworkers were lookin at me funny.

for example…im addicted to this webcomic
Me too =)
lol, agreed people can be addicted to many things.
awww, is there a blush smiley?
*heehee*
I no know,
But if there was, i’d have to use it all the time… my cheeks always turn a light shade of pink.
Makes some chicks jealous. I dunno why tho.
I think mine do sometimes too, thats what people tell me at least…

I dunno if you noticed but most of my smilies were =)
whent i first started posting… now they are like this =>
lol, thats a talent though, I can only stick to the basics…
heehee
well, consider it a blessing in disguise, You can show emotion through your words rather than a face.. eh?
lol, I try to at least
lol thats all that counts
Monique Iniguez? Why not moniBologna?
it was an accident. =)
heehee thanks for catching it. lol
Shows you how much i pay attention.
Monique Iniguez is my name btw lol not my full name though.
it seems to be your facebook name
and for an accident you did it quite a few times
umm yeah it is my facebook name?
lol i say accident because my compuer keeps the name in the “NAME” box without me having to retype it unless i have not been on in a couple days.
so yeah
You want me to edit it? I think I can…
Naw, I’m good.
Thank You for the offer though, that was sweet.
no problemo, happy to help
That function saves me time from retyping all the info in the 3 fields.
You could set your browser not to save cookies if you find it a problem (stupidinventor please dont change that
).
lol dont change what?
stupidinventor was going to edit how it stores the name in the name box to help you with your “accident”. it saves me time when its saved so I asked him not to change it.
oh! i thuoght you were telling him not to delete the ones with my name in it.
No, I can edit your comments to say whatever I want… which is weird, lol.
I want to make it that the user should be able to edit a comment they posted… I’ll look into it
hmmmmmm you go through wordpress right?
yeah, I use ComicPress, which is wordpress designed for webcomics… very happy with it!
i dont think their is a way for you to allow the users to delete their own because the users are not required to log in.
good point…
