Comic #58 – The Cosmic Smurf

Hmm, it appears that Staten Island might be the only place that has Cosmic Bowling, so my apoligies if you don’t get the joke… but basically Avatar = Smurfs + Pocahontas + Blacklight.

    lol hilarious

I never made that connection but you are sooo right

I’m not even trying to make fun of the movie, (even though I didnt like it)
Im just saying that after I watched it, I had the urge to watch the Smurfs and play some Cosmic Bowling, lol… :)

I thought Avatar was a great film…with a “slight” hint about some political situations right here on Earth ;)

        • stupidinventor

I think visually the film was amazing… the special effects were awesome.

          *SPOILER ALERT*
Plot wise, however, the film is rather weak.
I mean before going into the theater I had pretty much guessed the entire movie… you knew who were the “bad” guys, who were the “good” guys, and who would switch sides (The female pilot, for instance)
The only thing I didn’t guess before hand was how Jake Sulley would permanently switch into his Avatar body… which was solved by a magic tree…. wow…

I think while it did veer into politics, all it did was really just state the issue, it didn’t really try to explain it, you know? It was more a hint of the movie Pocahontas than anything political…

is this ad from the 80′s?? :P

    • stupidinventor

      It’s from the 90′s I think…. I’ve been to this bowling alley a few times… :)

      • harpocrates23

must have been earlyyyy 90′s commercial :p

        • stupidinventor

lol, or it was just a cheesy local commercial!

          Gotta love those!
I find them more entertaining than the professional ones… :)

I thought at Avatar as Pocahontas with the Dances With Wolves running time viewed with Transformer‘s technology. ;)

    • stupidinventor

True, but don’t forget the smurfs and blacklight thrown in too!

  4. Zaphod beeblebrox

the special effects were amazing but the plot was garbage haha

I am guessing that you guys either didnt get the reference in the plot or are republicans :P

Sorry to get the strip all political here :)

      • Moni Bologna

A plot is the problem and what happens.

A story is how both coexist n how the event plays out.

The plot was ill conceived as well as the story and the story was a little polical but the it did lacks some structure which overshadowed any of the references it had.

The technical and visual aspects were amazing but all in all i think the movie was more spectacle.

        • stupidinventor

agreed, see my earlier spoiler alert comment

          • Moni Bologna

gah i wished i saw your post sooner because i just would have said Ditto lol

            • stupidinventor

well I wrote that comment after you, so no worries… :)

            • Moni Bologna

:) BTW, a lot of places have cosmic bowling. :)

Phoenix has it in a lot of places too :)

              • stupidinventor

Oh ok, good, because none of my non-Staten Island friends seem to get the joke, and the only clip of it I found on youtube is from a Staten Island bowling alley, so I thought we were the only one, lol.

                • Moni Bologna

lol thats funny. i think one reason not a lot of people get it is because cosmic bowling has REALLy died down.

                  • stupidinventor

Well maybe Avatar will reignite Cosmic Bowling! Woohoo!

                  • Moni Bologna

                    whoohoo!

                    • stupidinventor

lol, im in the mood to go, just need a cosmic bowling alley!

                    • Moni Bologna

eh, i jsut need someone to go with lol

                    • stupidinventor

lol, I knew people who were really into bowling, went almost every week… they even owned their own bowling shoes!

                    • Moni Bologna

                      … thats a lil weird

                    • stupidinventor

well it makes sense, they save money because they dont have to rent shoes, plus they dont have to use shoes that other people have sweated in…. but it’s only worth it if you go alot…

                    • Moni Bologna

                      and they go.. A LOT

                    • stupidinventor

lol, well they’re religious and don’t go to movies or watch tv, and they’re guys so they don’t like to shop…. so there really isnt much for them to do… :)

                    • Moni Bologna

                      oooooooooooh!

                    • stupidinventor

That probably explains why people in the 50′s used to bowl… I actually just bought a book called Bowling Alone, about how TV and Computers are ruining the idea of “community”…. haven’t read it yet…

                    • Moni Bologna

That’s true, plus there was nothign else to do and bowling was kind of a new thing, right?

                    • stupidinventor

yeah, but there were also Clubs and places where people met and mingled… now people just go to work, then come home and watch tv until bedtime… etc. this is the impression I got from the back cover, I havent read the book yet, lol

      • stupidinventor

lol, no problem, I just don’t care for politics all too much… i’m an Independent then, lol.

    • stupidinventor

Zaphod, did you see this picture comparing the plot to Pocahontas?
