Stupid Inventor

Ok, so The Washington post is having a Cartoonist Contest, and you guys helped me choose the best Stupid Inventor comics to enter! Thank you everyone who took the time to go through the archive, and here’s proof that I read and took your comments into consideration:


Yellow highlights the 7 most popular choices, and the red shows the 5 comics I chose.
I didn’t chose 62 (The High-Low) because it doesn’t show any of the characters, and a lot of you justified it’s existence in the comments. 59 is funny, but it’s the same panel repeated three times and I was trying to avoid strips like that in my entry. 43 is also funny, but I just suck at drawing cars, lol.

I chose #3, because it’s a favorite of mine, and I think I want to do more with that blob monster character in the future. I re-worded the comic as well based on some feedback, so maybe it’ll be considered funnier now…

I also created a new strip, with a new character for the contest entry. I had this in mind for the first strip in a 6-part series introducing the character, which i’ll probably do later this Summer:

As you can see, for the contest the comic had to black and white only, no greyscale (i don’t think, lol). I’m definitely going to post all 6 comics after the Entry Deadline so you guys can see the new black and white style and let me know what you think of it, because I might start doing all the comics that way.

If anyone really wants to see my entry, and give me some feedback on how I can improve it further, just shoot me an email. I’m afraid to just post the whole thing here.

Oh, so the final choices were 3, 4, 46, 50, 53, and the new one.
I didn’t realize people liked the Twilight Zone one so much, I decided that was good enough for showing the Stupid Inventor odd interactions with women, so I didn’t include an actual dating one, although they’re all pretty funny to me, lol.
